“I think we have the strongest dangerous dog bylaw in the city," councillor Abe Gonshor said last month.$"/>$"/>The bylaw was sparked by recent incidents where a dog named Rosco bit two residents, one this past winter and another last summer. $"/>$"/>A dangerous dog is defined in the bylaw as one that “shows a propensity to attack or injure without provocation," actually attacks a person or animal, has been trained by its owner to attack on command and is a pure or mixed pit bull, Staffordshire bull-terrier, American bull-terrier and American Staffordshire terrier.$"/>$"/>The bylaw requires owners to make sure dogs do not attack people or other animals, are kept inside or in an enclosed outside area and, when off the property, are muzzled.$"/>$"/>Owners who violate the rules must remove the dog from the town and provide proof of this within 10 days of receiving a notice.$"/>$"/>“If the owner fails to comply after receiving the notice [demanding the dog's removal from the town], the public security director may cause the dog to be captured and turned over to the SPCA or euthanized," the bylaw says.

June 10, 2007 -- IT'S funny how dogs make friends out of strangers - like my late neighbor Mitch Pressler. A fixture on East 90th Street for decades, he'd sit on his building's stoop, surveying the block. Passersby stopped to hang with him, especially those on four legs: Savory the miniature pinscher, Paco the pug, Paddy the Lhasa apso, Lincoln the beagle, Lola the bulldog and my pack of pit bulls and mutts all gravitated to Mitch because he loved dogs.

Mitch regularly followed this column, too. "Very good article," he'd call out to me from his stoopside perch. Certain stories really got him talking, notably the one about how senior citizens struggle to keep pets in rent-stabilized apartments. He added his voice to the outcry when City Council Speaker Christine Quinn failed to support Intro 13, the Pets in Housing Bill.

Boxer Dog Receives Bravery Award

Boxer dog Cally recieved a PDSA Commendation yesterday (29 May) after she led her owner, Nick Hurle, to injured farm manager, Peter Gurney, who was pinned down by two half-tonne bales of silage at Pinner Park Farm.

The special presentation was held at Pinner PDSA shop on Bridge Street on Tuesday 29 May at 4.30pm.

Recounting the story, Nick Hurle, 60, said: "Last March I was taking my usual morning walk with Cally near Pinner Park Farm when she ran off. When she came back, she insisted that I follow her. Suddenly, I could hear a man crying out in pain and saw large plastic bales, which are normally stacked neatly, scattered across the farmyard. I ran over and realised he had been crushed by two of the bales. If it wasn't for Cally I would never have found him. I quickly rang 999."

Farm Manager, Peter Gurney, 60, said: "I was using my tractor to bring the silage down to feed the cows.

Crooks use the Web and puppies in scam

PHOENIX (AP) - Ads appearing in Arizona online and print classifieds offer English Bulldog and Yorkshire Terrier puppies and all you do is pay for shipping.The hitch is when contacted by e-mail, the giver says they're on a religious mission in Africa and they need a few hundred dollars to ship the dog.
