ASK DOG LADY: Pooch provides solace
Q: I guess I've tried to blot out the war in Iraq. But the conflict hit me with unexpected force when I watched the story of the dog sent back to a dead soldier's family on "Good Morning America." The family wanted a reminder of their fallen son, Justin Rollins, an Army specialist from New Hampshire. He sent home a picture taken of him with a puppy he had found in the war zone. Soon after they got that snapshot, the family learned Rollins was killed by a roadside bomb. They imagined the little puppy brought him his last moments of happiness before he lost his life. They found a way to cut through red tape and had the dog transported to the United States. I watched the TV pictures of this dog, Hero, being hugged by members of Rollins' family after its long flight. I couldn't stop crying.
