Two more British hits invade prime time

A beloved hit in the United Kingdom, "Creature Comforts" (8 p.m., CBS) combines audio clips from on-the-street interviews with cute, stop-motion animation of animals, birds, insects and other critters. The combination is guaranteed to raise a smile. Or at least a bemused titter.

"Creature" kicks off with one of its funnier, if less subtle, gags. A male voice is heard trying to describe strains of tastes and smells in what we can only presume to be a glass of wine. It sounds like a scene out of "Sideways." But the cartoon reveals two dogs smelling a certain section of another dog as only dogs do, and the audio takes on an altogether different flavor.

In keeping with its British origins, "Creature" is consistently deadpan. A female bird rattles off an exhaustive list of the doctors and therapists she's seeing while her taciturn mate responds with downcast eyes.

E-Cards Have Gone to the Dogs; Cats Fight Back!

Trend spotting is easy. Sales figures go up sharply when something new catches on, whether it's rap music, hybrid cars, or the newest i-phone. Remember when most homes didn't even have a computer? It's no surprise that since busy people everywhere are choosing to communicate at the speed of light in every way, e-cards have forged their way into our culture. But dog-loving e-cards? And what about the cat lovers? They need to send greetings, too!

www.SloppyKissCards.com debuted in June of 2006 and the site has already caught on in a big way. For just $9.95 USD, members can send customized greetings with any of more than 50 different breeds of dogs featured on the card. The combinations are unlimited.

Sloppy Kiss Cards is the brainchild of Nicole Stocker, a former Microsoft employee.

Inmates, dogs get new lease on life at prison

Two Mesa women are saving dogs and improving prisoners, bringing out the human side of murderers from Alaska and Hawaii with long sentences from bloody crimes committed decades ago. Shannon Holstein, of Kokopelli Dog and Puppy Training, and Kathy Swaney, of Valley of the Sun Dog Rescue, are on a mission to save dogs from euthanasia, making less popular breeds and mutts more adoptable through extensive training by inmates at the Red Rock Correctional Center in Eloy. "It gives them purpose," Holstein said about the inmates. "It gives the dogs a second chance. These dogs in eight weeks get far more training than they would at home." .

Offices will go to the dogs when pooch-friendly day hits

Sure, every day can't be the weekend, your dog seems to say. But couldn't I come along and just curl up under your desk?

Well, at some companies, he could. And here's your chance to convince your workplace to join the party, at least for one day: June 22 is the ninth annual Take Your Dog to Work Day, as declared by the trade group Pet Sitters International.

Your boss may scoff at the idea - the kind of thing they do at those big California tech companies with their wacky, Frisbee-throwing corporate cultures. And it's true that firms like Amazon and Google are well known for their pet-friendly policies.
