Rottweiler Rescue Makes Landmark Announcement

A small team of Rottweiler lovers have announced today that they have become only the second Rottweiler based organisation to be given charitable status. Zepthepep, named in honour of the dog that inspired the charity, Zephyr (pictured), have thanked the rescue website www.dogsblog.com for their help in acquiring this important status.

The Sheffield based charity has already re-homed 40 Rottweilers this year. John Swinhoe, who established the rescue organisation with his wife Mags, had this to say about their work so far.

"We will do whatever it takes to match the right dog into the right home for that particular dogs needs. No dog is ever knowingly placed into a situation by ZRR, where it would be chained up, used as a guard dog, neglected or used in any other way that would be detrimental to the dog's health and well being.

New Web scam: Free puppy, you just pay for shipping

Puppy scams are popping up in Arizona online and print classified ads, where the seller appears to be local and offers free English bulldogs or Yorkshire terriers. But when contacted by e-mail, the seller says he or she is in Africa on a religious mission and promises to ship the dog overnight for a few hundred dollars. After getting the money, the seller never ships a puppy.

A similar scenario is playing out in other states and countries, prompting consumer warnings Tuesday from the Better Business Bureau and the American Kennel Club. .

Paws and the laws of the road

Long sunsets and easy temperatures. The dog days? They're weeks away. Unless, of course, you're a pet owner.

Maybe you've already loaded up your golden for a trip to the beach, or crated your calico for a weekend up at the lake. Maybe you've merely taken Fido to the supermarket, or Whiskers to the veterinarian. The point is, if you own pets, they're bound to be in your car at some point. Especially during summer.

Rusty, my childhood dog, just loved car rides. He'd bound into the back seat and stick his long, collie snout out the side window to feel the breeze. We never thought twice about taking him anywhere. Certainly, we never thought about whether we were breaking any laws.

But since this is a column about driving, we pose the question. Are there rules about transporting a pet in a vehicle?

Do dogs need seat belts? Is it illegal to leave your animal in the car on a hot day? Can you be fined for driving with a cat in your lap?

What do you think? The law says

Doggie spas.

Calif. family's lost dog found after 7 years, but not everyone is ...

FULLERTON, Calif. (AP) - There was no puppy love when Jewel met Jade. Jewel, the Correy family pet, disappeared seven years ago. Misty Correy and her children hoped the microchip in the dog's back would help find the Siberian husky.

"After three months, we figured we would never see Jewel again," Correy said. So they got Jade, a yellow Labrador.

Last month, the family got a call from a humane society in Yuma. An animal control officer had found Jewel wandering down an empty road and they had traced her through the chip.

It's unclear how Jewel got to Arizona and became lost again.

Correy's daughter, Breezy, 16, and her older brother drove for 14 hours to retrieve Jewel.

"I hugged her all the way home," Breezy said.

Loss of beloved dog has left a huge hole for Fergus family

Our family has lived in Fergus Falls since 2002. We have really liked it here. Until today I loved my new home, but today May 24, 2007, I don't.

My companion of only 1 1/2 years was taken from me. He was a loveable brown and white Basset Hound named Good Will Hounding. He was my baby. He was one of the only things that brightened my two sons day. Both have ADHD and one is Autistic. He was one of the only things that calmed them down. Not to mention that I don't know what to do with our other dog, Graceland. She misses him so much. She just looks for him everywhere.

This is all due to the fact that someone killed him in front of our house by hitting him with a vehicle.

I don't know who did it. However I do know it is due to carelessness on the part of that person. You see our home is located just west of the intersection of Broadway and Lincoln Avenue.
